The Breath of the Stone
The Mavecure Hills, located in the department of Guainía, rise powerfully above the Amazonian plains like stone giants that connect the most remote past with the living jungle that surrounds them. Formed from granite and granodiorite of the Guiana Shield, they are between 1.7 and 2 billion years old, making them some of the oldest geological formations on the planet.
THE BREATH OF THE STONE
In the Mavecure Hills, jungle and rock share their own cycle of breath, where the black stone becomes the mineral lung of the landscape. Under the sun’s heat, the rock warms, and—as temperatures rise—the water accumulated on its surface begins to evaporate. With this exhalation of vapor into the sky, the heat slowly dissipates into the air.
At night, the stone cools and, instead of exhaling, it seems to inhale the moisture in the atmosphere. The clouds formed by the vapor that rose during the day return as rain, descending like threads of silver down the slopes. They follow the grooves and channels carved by time—lines the water continues to sculpt with every fall.
JEWELS BORN FROM A BREATH
In this continuous cycle, the stone reflects the duality between inhaling and exhaling, between heat and cold. The surfaces of the hills, hardened by the heat of the day, find relief in the coolness of the nighttime rain. It is a perpetual dance between rising heat and falling water, between the expansion of the rock and its cooling—where jungle and stone breathe in unison, as if they were a single living being.
MATERIALS
The Mavecure jewels are born from a breath contained within blown glass. Repeated inhalations and exhalations shape each bubble, each translucent curve; in this way, the pieces hold the invisible gesture of breath—as if the jungle and the stone had exhaled their memory together.
The systems made from recycled silver extracted from X-rays trace the axes of that breath: subtle structures that connect the internal and the external, the dense and the light. In this way, the collection transforms the act of breathing into a tangible form, where glass becomes air made matter, and silver, the skeleton that holds what is essential.
